But women can never be careful enough, can we? If we take naked pictures of ourselves, we’re asking for it. If someone can manage to hack into our accounts, we’re asking for it. If we’re not wearing anti-rape nail polish, we’re asking for it. If we don’t take self-defence classes, we’re asking for it. If we get drunk, we’re asking for it. If our skirts are too short, we’re asking for it. If we pass out at a party, we’re asking for it. If we are not hyper-vigilant every single fucking second of every single fucking day, we are asking for it. Even when we are hyper-vigilant, we’re still asking for it. The fact that we exist is asking for it.

This is what rape culture looks like.

This is what misogyny looks like.

Well, a few things you can do.

There are two funds separate funds.

One is the Michael Brown Memorial Fund. The other is the Brown Siblings Memorial Fund

You might be wondering why two separate funds? One is to help the parents with expenses associated with seeking justice for their son while the other is to help the siblings with physiological help, with any of the remaining funds to go towards education and scholarships for them.

Now, someone might ask… why donate money directly to the family? Simple: to help keep the pressure up. People can organize all they want for the short term, but let’s be honest… without financial support, they will be forgotten within the next few months.

Another thing: sign a petition. The Mike Brown Law to be exact. While the petition got all the signatures needed, I really think there needs to be an outstanding amount for it to really have an effect. Since the Petition can only be signed up US addresses, this one will have a clear effect…

… but that’s sadly is only half the story.

Putting political pressure on the White House is one thing. But if they answered, you know they can’t just do an executive order. You’ll need to push your congressperson to uphold their promise to serve the people. You can use this tool to help you find your representatives.

Phone calls, emails and tweets are helpful, but because most of the reps in congress are… you know… old… letters are effective.

Lastly, I would start preparing counter-measures. Some people don’t want the police to be monitored. Some would say equipment is an expensive upkeep. I would go as far as saying that such things like can re-established trust with the police as they are public servants. You might be thinking “this is reverse psychology.” But sometimes, in order to win battles like this, I like my opponent to think I’m doing them a favor.
